Once referred to as the
Spargo Farm, Riverview Farms changed back to its original name when it
was taken over by David and Marjorie Manning. The Mannings work the
farm themselves and are raising their son to respect and love the
different aspects of farming.
They sell beef, pigs, hay, and
seasonal vegetables. In the summer they sell various vegetables such as
zucchini, carrots, beets, beans, potatoes, cucumbers as well as their
very popular sweet corn. In the fall they sell pumpkins, corn stalks,
and gourds. They also sell ear corn all year round.
Marjorie Manning says, "The best
part of owning and running the farm is being able to grow and raise our
own food. We take pride in that both our pigs and beef cattle are
pastured, making our meat healthier and better tasting. We also take
pride in knowing that the next generation to run the farm has been
taught to respect and love the land and the animals. We hope that they
enjoy not only the satisfaction of harvesting the crops but also
appreciate the hard work it takes to run a farm."
"Currently we do not do a lot of
advertising. We rely on word-of-mouth throughout the town and visitors
for our advertisement. However, each year we have sold an increasingly
amount of vegetables and each year we have a waiting list for the
purchase of our animals. It gives us a good feeling that our customers
must enjoy our food, which we strive to make better every year.
Ultimately, our goal is to provide our customers with the healthiest and
freshest vegetables and meat along with trying to preserve the land."
